Before Exams
- Submit your examination information at Online Services and/or notify the Exams Office if changes are made to your exam plans
- Publish your exam several days in advance (but keep it locked/unavailable.) This will allow students to see the total time, dates of availability, etc., and students requiring accommodations can confirm whether their accommodation has been included.
- Allot extra time to students that received approvals from the Accessibilities Office via the Moderate Quiz button
- Read and distribute the resource Online Exam Checklist to avoid common issues to your students at least one week in advance of the exam
- If it is an online proctored exam, review the Instructor Proctorio Checklist
- Prior to the exam, set an emergency plan (see Tips & Best Practices for Setting Up Online Exams). The emergency plan may be to give a student another attempt after a completed attempt or give a student equivalent time loss on a currently running attempt
During the Exam, if Technology Issues Arise
- Direct students with tech problems to contact the DCE Online Support help desk at AcademicTechnology@dce.harvard.edu, or (617) 998-8571
If This Is a Final Exam
- Exams must be given on the assigned date for the course
- Online exams must occur over a 24-hour window
- Instructors may only offer one examination format to students. For example, students may not elect to take a paper exam in lieu of an online exam unless they have been pre-approved to do so by the Accessibility Services Office or Exams Office.
Please do not make separate arrangements with individual students who are unable to take their proctored or online exams as scheduled. Refer these students to the Student Appeals Specialist, (617) 495-0977, appeals@extension.harvard.edu. Students with approved accommodations, contact the Accessibilities Office (ASO), (617) 998-9640, accessibility@extension.harvard.edu. If there are questions about exam policies, contact Academic Services, (617) 495-7928, distance_exams@extension.harvard.edu.
