Teaching Staff Proctorio Checklist

After ITG Installation

  • Any teaching staff editing quizzes or exams using Proctorio or viewing the Proctorio results need to use a supported browser with the Proctorio extension installed.
    • Failure to due so may strip Proctorio settings from the quiz or exam.
  • Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, or Opera are the supported browsers you can use when editing an exam with Proctorio or viewing the Proctorio Gradebook.
  • Install the Proctorio extension on your supported browser.
    • Select Secure Exam Proctor: Installing Proctorio from the Proctorio Content Module on your Canvas site.
  • Check your Proctorio Setup Quiz settings.
    • Do not select the Proctorio setting Re-Entry with Agent or No Re-Entry.
    • Save a Proctorio Profile.
      • This allows you to apply the same Proctorio settings to all quizzes and exams using Proctorio.
  • Publish the Setup Quiz as soon as possible.
    • The Setup quiz must be published at least 3-5 business days before the first Proctorio exam.
      • This ensures students have sufficient time to test their systems and make alternative arrangements if needed.
  • Post a Canvas Announcement
    •  A Canvas Announcement with a delay posting setting was added to your site during installation.
      • Edit the announcement and remove the delay posting date to let students know your course is using Proctorio and remind them to review support information.

Before Your Exam

  • Enable Proctorio for your exam.
    • Check the Enable Proctorio box in your exam settings.

    • Proctorio may already be enabled if you imported a past exam with Proctorio.
    • All Proctorio exams will have (Remotely Proctored) shown after your exam title.
  • Apply your Proctorio settings by selecting your Proctorio Profile from within your exam or chose your settings manually.
  • Add additional time to your exam for technical issues.
    • Students may be more likely to experience technical difficulties when taking an exam with Proctorio.
    • We recommend adding 10% extra time (or 15 minutes) and mentioning you did so in the exam details.
      • This saves you time by avoiding emails from students requesting additional small amounts of time be added to their exam.
  • Review our Canvas exam admin guides for instructions on:
    • Adding Time for Accessibility Accommodations
    • Adding a Different Window of Time for Exceptions
    • Adding Extra Time to a Running Exam
  • Plan ahead how you will deal with student issues that may arise.
  • Never give out the Access Code.
    • Giving a student the access code allows them to by-pass the proctoring system.
    • If a student reports a message requesting an access code, Proctorio is not running.
      • They should make sure they are using a supported browser with the Proctorio extension installed and reach out to Proctorio for assistance.
