The HELIX/Hyflex Classroom Experience

DCE has designed HELIX/Hyflex Classrooms to allow remote students to use Zoom to interact with you and your on-campus students during class in real time.  In addition, the classes are recorded so a third set of students can watch the recordings at their convenience. We’ve found that providing these multiple ways for students to participate enhances the learning experience for all.

You and the students in the classroom will be able to see those who are attending class via Zoom on a large monitor. You’ll also be able to hear them through the classroom speakers. The students in Zoom will be able to see and hear you and the students in the classroom, as well as the other Zoom students. Students sitting in the classroom and those participating via Zoom are able to have conversations with you and with each other. Speaking to the students who are watching the recording makes them feel included as well.

“I know it feels daunting at the beginning to imagine yourself in this hybrid space, but the truth is, this is a wonderful opportunity to grow as an educator.”

  3. Click the Join button
  4. Click on the Host button

Sharing Content

You will use the Zoom “Share Screen” feature when you are showing PowerPoint presentations, web sites, or anything else you want your students to see. This content will be projected on the room monitor, just like when you are sharing content from your computer in a typical on-campus class. Since you are sharing your screen in Zoom, students attending via Zoom can see the content just as they would if it was a class taking place only in Zoom. You can also write on the classroom’s white board and the videographer will focus the camera on this so the remote students can also see. Students watching the recording will also see all the content that you share.
