Canvas allows you to add comments and feedback to assignment submissions.
You can only see and use this feature after the assignment has been published and submitted.
Recommended: Confirm/ edit Submission Type as Restricted Upload File Type to doc, docx during assignment creation.
Step 1.
Click on "Assignments" in the course navigation menu.
- Locate the assignment
Step 2.
- Select "Download Submissions"
Note: DO NOT change the file names once they have downloaded to your computer. Canvas can only re-upload files that retain their original file names.
Step 3.
- Compress/ Zip the folder after making comments
- Make sure all the student assignments are in one folder
- To Compress/ Zip
- Right click on the folder and select:
- Compress (if a MAC)
- Zip (if a PC)
- Right click on the folder and select:
MAC
PC
Step 4.
- Return to the assignment
- An "Upload Submissions" option will appear below "Download Submissions"
- Canvas will confirm your files have been uploaded and associated with corresponding student submissions.
Step 5.
- Viewing the assignment comments
- When you (in SpeedGrader) or students (Submission Details) view the assignment, they will see the attached file in the comment sidebar.
