About: Cortney (she/her) works with teaching staff to set up Canvas course sites and tools in ways that enable students to get the most out of their learning experience. She specializes in online exam creation, proctoring, and troubleshooting Canvas functionality.

About: Daniel (he/him) provides AV support and maintains AV technology in DCE classrooms and meeting spaces. Additionally, Daniel conducts research on emerging software and AV compatibility and coordinates the implementation of new classroom technology.

Manager for Program Development (PDP) 

Drop-In Booth: Interested in Becoming an Instructor for Professional Development Programs (PDP)?

About: Dean (he/him) supports the Assistant Director for Program Development in managing new program development and making recommendations to improve the existing portfolio of 130+ programs. He also provides content and instructor oversight for PDP’s hybrid and blended offerings, facilitates new instructor orientation, and liaises with Teaching & Learning and PDP instructors to create compelling content and promotional videos.

Workshop: Encouraging Academic Integrity in the Age of ChatGPT 

About: Ethan (he/they) works with instructors to help them develop fully-online Extension School courses. Together with instructors, he considers how an all-online learning environment is similar to and different from the classroom, and brainstorms ways to adapt the course content to improve the online student's experience.

About: Gergana (she/her) provides leadership to a team of AV/Media specialists to develop and support innovative technological approaches to on-campus, online, hybrid-format courses and classroom learning environments that allow faculty, students, and participants to meet their teaching and learning goals at the PDP, HES, HSS. She leads AV renovation and new classroom buildout projects at Harvard, and manages a Multimedia Services Center focused on providing state-of-the-art media resources and services to meet the needs of Harvard’s faculty, students and staff.

About: Jennifer (she/her) leads program development for Professional Development Programs (PDP), with a current portfolio of 130+ programs and oversees the recruitment of qualified instructors to deliver innovative programs to meet diverse audience needs and provide Harvard-quality facilitation. PDPs (on-campus, hybrid, and online) bring professionals together from a wide-variety of industries and backgrounds, primarily mid to senior-level managers and directors who can draw on their work experience to participate effectively in program discussions and team exercises.

Jorge Calderon

About: Jorge (he/him) is responsible for the setup, imaging, and maintenance of all Windows equipment and conducts distance Network/Internet assessments for Instructors, manages Hotspot, Wifi extenders and routers for Faculty, and provides phone support for Faculty and Students. Additionally, Jorge oversees the accessibility software and solutions, and provides back up for Network administration. 

Julie Ponce-Sarmiento 
Instructor of Neuroscience, Cellular & Molecular Biology (HSS & HES)

Workshop: Teaching Neurodiverse Learners

About: Julie (she/her) is an instructor of Neuroscience, Cellular & Molecular Biology at Harvard Summer School (HSS) and Harvard Extension School (HES) and she has created and facilitated several professional development workshops, including effective communication with different personalities, conflict resolution, assertiveness, negotiation, and inclusive communication. She completed her PhD at the University of Cambridge in England, where she focused her research on animal communication and neuroscience and completed an MA at the University of St Andrews in Scotland, specializing in marine mammal conservation.

Prior to her move into Academic Technology, she worked as an application developer, having earned her computer science degree at Trinity College in Connecticut.

About: Sarah (she/her) leads a team of instructional technologists working with faculty using a broad range of tools to enhance the learning experience. She serves as a liaison between DCE and the rest of the Harvard community as new tools and strategies evolve and are tested, helping to ensure that the tools are developed and deployed in a way that best suits course content and meets the needs of both DCE instructors and students.
