Using Gather LTI for Zoom
Gather is a tool developed at DCE to manage our web conference courses. It makes the integration of Canvas and Zoom seamless for users.
What Gather Does
- Provides a secure pathway to bring you to your Zoom classroom
- Organizes your course Zoom meetings and cloud recordings
- Uses Harvard Key to allow only the course instructors and registered students to enter the Zoom classroom via your Canvas course website
- Provides a way for you to create a secure link for your guest speakers to enter the Zoom classroom.
- Allows you to create secure meeting spaces for sections or office hours
Please do not create your own classroom in Zoom. We will do that for you.
How to Get to Your Zoom Classroom
- Log into your Canvas site using your Harvard Key
- Click on "Zoom" in the left panel to get into Gather
- Click the Join button to the right of "Class"
- On the next page, join as host
Other Things You Can Do in Gather
- Create meetings for your sections and/or office hours (Do NOT create your classroom)
- Customize recording and waiting room settings
- Create and Publish Recordings (for courses that have only synchronous students)
- Provide an online space for your students to meet outside of class time using the Gather Study Lounge

Gather Study Lounge
Your students can meet online in the Gather Study Lounge and use the space much in the same way that on-campus students might meet to discuss the class, network, or study together. Online students may want to use the lounge to watch recordings together. It's also a great way for your synchronous and asynchronous students to interact with each other.
