Exam Language Tips

To help you get started with creating clear directions for your students about the nuances of Canvas Quizzes, we've provided you with some base text that you can customize for your needs.

General Canvas Directions

  • You have one and only one attempt. Once you start the exam, you must finish it. If for some reason you are removed from the exam due to technical difficulties, the timer will continue. Please attempt to re-enter the exam immediately. When you complete the entire exam, hit Submit Quiz at the bottom. Once you click Submit Quiz, you will not be able to go back into the exam.
  • You can easily ascertain your time status by watching the little timer on the right side of this exam page. Once you enter the exam the clock begins to run whether or not you are in the exam.
  • Do not, under any circumstances, open multiple exam sessions as this could result in blank submissions caused by out-of-sync autosaving. YOUR HARD WORK MAY BE LOST!

Note: If you encounter any technical issues during the exam, you may call you may call DCE's Online Support Office 617-998-8571 (for Online Support Office Hours: Fall & Spring Terms , and Summer Term) or for 24-hour help call 844-326-4466 and/or click on the Help icon on the lower left side of the course web site where you will find chat and email help functions.

Available from and Available Until Window of Time

  • The exam is available for you to begin starting Wednesday @ 7:40 pm (ET). The exam must be submitted by 7:40 pm (ET) on Thursday or within 135 minutes after you begin the exam, whichever comes first. If you plan to take the exam on Thursday, please plan to start with enough time to give yourself the full 135 minutes.

File Upload Exams

  • You must have your exam uploaded and submitted before your exam time runs out or before the exam end date and time, whichever comes first. For example, if the due date is March 15th at 11:59 pm, the exam will close exactly at 11:59 pm. To prevent any issues with your exam, you should submit a few minutes before to ensure it is uploaded, otherwise it will submit a blank exam.

Once you are answering the exam questions, use the upload file button below to submit your completed exam as a single file upload.
Note: when downloading the files you may receive a message about navigating away from the Canvas page, this is expected and you must click ok to continue the download.

Buffer Time for Technology

  • The exam is designed to take 60 minutes to complete, but we've given you an extra 10 minutes, which leaves plenty of time to work with the technology required to complete the exam (i.e. scan and file upload, inserting formulas within Canvas, or using excel to run calculations then transferring them to Canvas). Suggested time per question is listed in the question prompts; this accounts for the 60 minutes of content time only, and you may use the extra 10 minutes however you wish.

Proctorio Enabled Exam

  • This exam uses the Proctorio remote proctoring software and cannot be taken without it. This also requires that you have a working webcam and mic, before beginning the exam. The Student Proctorio Checklist will guide you through how to properly install a supported browser and download the Proctorio browser extension. Please take the Proctorio Set-up quiz ahead of time to ensure your system is compatible and functioning properly.

  • If Canvas asks you for an access code, this means Proctorio is not running. Be sure you are using a supported browser with Proctorio enabled.
