Adding People to Course Sites
DO NOT add anyone to the course site in an admin role.
- Direct requests to FEAA or reach out to ITG.
- TAs requesting access to course sites should be direct to FEAA. Teaching staff are automatically fed into the system and added to all course sites once the hiring paperwork has been processed.
Reach out to ITG for adding people in Guest or Observer roles.
We have the responsibility safeguarding our students' privacy and security of information.
Masquerading
- Do not make announcements on behalf of instructors.
- Do not submit assignments on behalf of students.
- Questions and research regarding academic integrity should be directed to the Dean of Students Office.
Avoid using masquerading if possible, as there are analytics concerns and privacy policies that prohibit us from accessing some parts of student information.
Sandbox Sites
Request through ITG. Please include the reason for the sandbox site and title of the site.
Taking a Course at DCE?
Create an alternative HarvardKey account.
Due to your administrative role on the Canvas account, your Canvas course site and all external tools (like Zoom, Proctorio, Yellowdig, etc) will consider you teaching staff. You will be accessing content and tools and potentially bypassing instructor access settings and other classmates' private student information.
When you set up the alternative account it is important that you use an email address that is not affiliated with any other Harvard accounts or your account set up will not work.
Please append your last name with "-student" so you are able to differentiate the accounts in Canvas. You will also have to set a strong password that meets Harvard’s security standards.
After your alternative HarvardKey account, please let ITG know. We make note, add your alternative account to the course site and email the instructor on your behalf explaining the additional listing for academic integrity.
Using Non-Canvas Tools
Data security and privacy a top priority at DCE. Our contracted tools are vetted to ensure everyone is protected. Check out ITG’s teaching tools to extend Canvas.
If you have teaching staff interested in tools not included on our list, please have them contact ITG.
