Attendance Required 

Purpose: Your students join you online for synchronous interactive classes at regularly scheduled times. 

Who is this format for?

  1. Instructors who want to extend their impact to students who can’t come to campus for class.

  1. Instructors who want their students to share ideas with others who are in different locations.

  1. Students who live too far away or have schedules that prevent them from coming to campus for class.

  2. Students who prefer to take class from the comfort of their own homes or places of work.

What type of course is this format best for?

  1. Interactive courses with lots of discussion, activities, and student interaction, such as seminars and writing courses

  2. Courses with lower enrollments

How can I teach in this format? 

  1. Instructor Location: You teach using a computer from any suitable location with good internet connection. 

  1. Student Participation Policies

    1. Students attend class at the scheduled time via Zoom. 

    2. Students are required to be dressed as if they were attending class in person, be in a suitable location, and not be driving or riding in a car. 

    3. Students should keep their cameras on during class.

    4. No asynchronous students

  1. Class Size: Usually fewer than 40 students

  1. Your Zoom Classroom: The Teaching and Learning team will create your Zoom class meeting and place the link on your Canvas site (you must have a Harvard Zoom account). You and your students access the Zoom class and recordings via your Canvas site. 

  1. Recordings

    1. You choose whether or not to record all, some, or none of your classes.

    2. If you do record, you are responsible for publishing your recordings on your Canvas site.
